When choosing to buy a new Freezer there are a number of important factors to consider, but with a little bit of research you can find a freezer perfectly suited to your needs and budget.
Freezer Width
Choosing the correct size of freezer is very much down to the amount of space that you have available in your kitchen. Generally, Freezers are available in either 54cm or 60cm in width, so ensure that you measure the area that your freezer needs to go into before you make that purchase.

Alternative Freezer sizes are available too if you are looking for a particularly spacious unit, such as with American Style Fridge-Freezers which can be around 70cm in width but offer considerably more storage space.
A separate deep freezer can be paired alongside a matching fridge in large kitchens, or kept in a utility room or garage, where kitchen space is more limited.
Under counter Freezers
Under counter freezers are a good way of saving space in smaller kitchens - they literately go under the work surface which means they are fairly discreet. When purchasing an under counter freezer, make sure the height of the freezer is the correct height to fit under your worktop.
Freezer Star Rating
When looking to buy freezers or fridge freezers it is important to check the star rating. Freezer compartments with a 2 star rating are only suitable for short term storage of food that is already frozen and are not suitable for actually freezing food.
If you require longer term storage or buy fresh food and then want to freeze it the best freezer for you is one with a 4 star rating.
To Defrost or Not To Defrost?
Freezer defrosting was once the most difficult and time consuming tasks that a freezer owner would have to undertake. Thanks to new technology, defrosting a freezer is no longer a requirement thanks to 'Frost Free' freezers.
The cause of ice and frost in a freezer was usually due to the poor circulation of air in the freezer - this would make some areas colder than others, which would cause ice to slowly build up over the months and years.
However, new 'Frost Free' freezers have greatly improved the air circulation inside a freezer, which means that ice does not build up around the edges. Frost Free Freezers can cost a little more than ordinary freezers, so you need to make a choice dependent on your freezer budged to decide whether to extra money to not have to defrost every year or so is worth it. Defrosting a freezer takes approximately 1 hour and is quite a physical task,

Freezer Energy Consumption
As your freezer is one of the only appliances that will be left on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - it is worth considering the 'Energy Rating' of the freezer you are buying.
If you have a freezer that was purchased more than 5 years ago, then there is a strong possibility that is costing considerably more to run than an 'A' rated model would cost.
When buying a Freezer, most new units will be either A+, A or B rated. To save on running costs it is obviously worth purchasing an A+ or A rated unit - but don't fret too much about A+, as this will only save you a few extra pounds each year in comparison to 'A'.
